Day Four: Markets, Food and the Road North

Use the last day for the parts of Nairobi that reward unhurried time. The Sarit Centre and Westgate are both within walking distance of most Westlands hotels and cover groceries, pharmacies and cafés. For local crafts at fairer prices than the tourist markets, try the Maasai Market at the Junction Mall on Sundays if your dates align. Lunch at one of the many Indian, Ethiopian or Kenyan restaurants around Woodvale Grove; the area's food scene is genuinely one of its strengths.

If you have a full extra half-day, the Banana Hill Art Gallery, about 40 minutes north-west via Limuru Road, shows contemporary East African work in a garden setting and is rarely crowded. Otherwise, keep the final afternoon light: traffic toward the airport builds from mid-afternoon, so leave three hours before an international flight. March to June and October to December bring the heaviest rain; the cooler, dry months from June to September are the most comfortable for this itinerary.
